The five friends all grew up in Horsham’s Karingal Crescent and reunited on Saturday at the Horsham Basketball Stadium for a special fundraiser.
The Berrys’ mother Jedda passed away from cancer five years ago. The five boys decided to raise some funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia by shaving their heads, and packed out the basketball stadium on Saturday.
Jarrod Berry, who plays for the Brisbane Lions, also had support from his AFL club. His senior coach Chris Fagan also shaved his head in Horsham, while some of his teammates were in attendance too.
Robertson said it was great to have the five mates back together and to raise so much money. During the week, the tally was sitting at roughly the $33,000 mark before Saturday’s event.
“It went absolutely awesome and we were pretty stoked. We didn’t know what to expect in terms of people coming but we had roughly 300-500 people there,” he said.
“I think we might even have raised a bit more than $50,000 now. I didn’t even know we reached that until someone in the crowd told me and I thought that was incredible.”
Robertson said it was great to have the support of the Brisbane Lions.
“They brought a lot to the event,” he said.
“The support from Brisbane throughout the whole event and planning has been unbelievable.”
Robertson, who had grown dreadlocks for the past five years, said he was enjoying not having them anymore.
“It’s great, I’m loving not having them on,” he said.
Robertson said the support the community showed the five friends has been phenomenal.
“It’s been fantastic getting back together and we have just been hanging out the five of us the last few days,” he said.
“We will keep the fundraiser open for another month or so for anyone who is still keen to support us.”
