A HOST of the region’s junior basketball products have made the cut in Basketball Victoria Country state squads for tournaments in January next year.

Basketball Victoria Country released its squads on Tuesday night for the Southern Cross Challenge and the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup.
Hugh Dougherty has been named in the under-14s Southern Cross team, while Joel Freijah, Ararat’s Fletcher Burger and Stawell’s Taya Chisholm have been named emergencies for the under-15s.
For the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup, Brodie Pope has made the under-16s side, while Sam Breuer and Austin McKenzie have been named in the under-18s.
Breuer and McKenzie have made the squad despite being bottom-aged players.
Ben Hobbs, who now plays for the Ballarat Basketball Association, has also made the under-18s squad for the cup as a bottom-aged player.
Basketball Victoria’s basketball operations manager Grant Wallace said the country contingent will set up their elite basketball journeys.
