Fashions on the Field co-ordinator Shana Miatke said she was expecting many people to be dressed to the nines on the day.
“As patrons are coming in the gate, we pinpoint people who we feel have taken the effort in trying to dress up to a standard that is contemporary racewear,” she said.
“We then invite them to participate in the Fashion on the Field event, and that’s for men and women.”
This year’s categories will include Lady of the Day, Runner-up Lady of the Day, Best Dresses Gentleman, Best Dressed Couple and Best Millinery. There will also be a junior section for children.
Ms Miatke wanted to encourage everyone to make an effort.
“Especially in country racing, this gives people the chance to dress up and make an effort to take part in the atmosphere and feel that spring carnivals are all about,” she said.
“It’s also an opportunity for people who can’t travel to other places such as Melbourne to partake in this kind of thing.
“Cup day always has a great atmosphere and gives people the chance to dress up and be accepted by their peers because everyone else is doing it.
Sponsors of this year’s Fashion on the Fields event are Priceline Pharmacy and eXquisit.
“Florals are definitely large this year, as is lace. The length of dresses has definitely changed – a lot of to more knee-length,” she said.
“I really want to encourage people to dress up and enjoy the day. The weather forecast looks fantastic so you won’t have to put a jacket on over those beautiful dresses for a change. I would encourage people to wear comfortable footwear though.”
