At West Wimmera Shire Council, no councillors have put their hands up to contest for the role yet.
Current mayor Jodie Pretlove said she would wait to see if she had the support in the chamber to run again.
“I’ll wait to see what happens. If I think I’ll have the support, then I’ll decide to run again,” she said.
“It’s been a very busy year and a great experience.
“It’s really something I never though I’d do; I’ve been lucky to have such a supportive group of councillors working with me.”
Cr Richard Hicks said it was “too premature” for him to comment about mayoral elections.
Cr Tom Houlihan said he wouldn’t be running for the position.
“I have too many other commitments; I think our current mayor is doing a good job,” he said.
Cr Bruce Meyer said he had no plans to run. Cr Trevor Domaschez said he had “no comment”.
West Wimmera Shire Council will announce its mayor at the council’s statutory meeting on Wednesday, November 7 in the council’s chamber at Kaniva.
Hindmarsh Shire Council will elect its mayor at a statutory meeting also to be held on November 7. The meeting will be at the Nhill Memorial Community Centre at 6pm.
Sitting mayor Ron Ismay said he would nominate for a second term.
"I am going to run again. I think I have the support of the council," he said.
Cr Rob Gersch - who has served as mayor multiple times - said he would not nominate for the role.
"I know Cr Ismay is nominating and I'll be supporting him again," Cr Gersch said.
Cr Ron Lowe - also a former mayor - and Cr David Colbert said they would not put their hands up.
The Wimmera Mail-Times contacted Crs Debra Nelson and Tony Schneider for comment, but did not receive responses before deadline.
