HORSHAM Florist owners are devastated that their business was destroyed by a fire on Saturday morning.
Horsham Police are treating the fire as suspicious after someone broke into the business between 2am and 6am.
Horsham Florist owner Heather Harrison said they were shocked.
The florist is owned by Ms Harrison and her two sisters Rosemary Arnott and Susan McQueen.
“It is not what we expected to wake up to on a Saturday morning,” Ms Harrison said.
At this stage, Ms Harrison said she was unsure when the business will reopen.
“First we need to go into the shop and see what, and if, we still have anything, but it sounds like it has been all destroyed,” she said.
“We are all a bit shocked at the moment, but we will work it out.”
EARLIER – 12pm
HORSHAM Police are treating a fire at Horsham Florist that started sometime on Saturday morning as suspicious.
Detective Senior Constable Neale Roberts said someone broke into the business between 2am and 6am on Saturday morning.
“Someone has broken into the business, ransacked the offices and sales area, stolen cash and then lit the place on fire to destroy any DNA and forensic evidence,” he said.
Police and the Country Fire Authority arrived at the scene about 6.30am.
“We have the arson chemist from Melbourne attending and the arson squad are overseeing the investigation,” Detective Senior Constable Roberts said.
Horsham Florist has suffered significant damage to its stock as well as smoke damage.
Police said it is estimated there has been about $50,000 worth of damage to the business.
“The owners are obviously devastated,” Detective Senior Constable Roberts said.
“It’s a burglary, theft and arson.”
There has been some smoke damage to neighbouring businesses Shine Hairdressing and Jade Lantern. Shine Hairdressing remains open for business.
