Craig Kellow took home the coveted Gerard FitzGerald Senior Coach of the Year title for his efforts at the Nathalia Football Netball Club this season.
Pekin was one of four coaches nominated for the award, and was joined by fellow Wimmera coach Will Bell from Great Western.
He said it was a great honour just to be in the room.
“It was a pretty big honour to be in a room with 400 or 500 people there and to hear from John Worsfold who was guest speaker,” Pekin said.
“It was pretty humbling to be nominated and it was a really good experience and one I might not get to do again.
“The guy that won was really dedicated and talked about his plans and GPS tracking – he took it to the next level.”
