Horsham Criminal Investigation Unit senior constable Nathaniel Warren said it was important people locked their vehicles at all times.
“We have seen a notable spike recently in people not securing their tools and having things in sight, such as their wallet or phone, and subsequently stolen,” he said.
“What we have seen are a lot of opportunistic thefts that could be prevented.”
He said Horsham Police always had ongoing cases of stolen tools.
“It costs a lot of time and money for the tradies to replace them. Our message to people is lock up no matter where you are,” he said.
Senior Constable Warren encouraged people to report all cases of stolen items from vehicles, including power tools, to contact Horsham CIU on 5382 9200.
