Telangatuk East was forced to forfeit to Drung South, leaving St Michael’s to take on Kalkee and Haven to battle with Horsham Lawn.
The first time the latter teams met in round three, Lawn took every set on offer.
But Haven was determined not to let that happen again.
Horsham Lawn claimed three of the first four doubles sets on Saturday to look in control early.
But the young Haven side turned the tables in the singles section to level at four sets apiece.
The teams split the next two doubles sets to set up an enthralling end to the day, where Haven clinched three of the four remaining sets to win eight sets to six.
Haven captain Kirby Knight said everyone played extremely well considering the blustery conditions.
“It was a great day with plenty of close sets – it could have gone either way,” she said.
“Tom Bourchier and Connor Chivell, and Genevieve Bush and Lucinda Bourchier won a couple of pearler sets in the last lot of doubles to sneak the win for us.
“Overall it was an awesome team effort.”
The victory meant Haven displaced Kalkee in third spot on the ladder, after the latter fell to St Michael’s on Saturday.
The Saints wasted no time getting back to their best after their first loss of the season last round.
The team played a woman down, meaning they were forced to forfeit three sets.
But these were the only sets St Michael’s dropped for the day as they showed why they are again the team to beat for the premiership.
As always the Kees were competitive though, particularly in the later stages of the day. The match finished with a flurry of close sets, with the Saints clinching three tie-breakers.
The Kees are now fifth behind Drung South. Both are on equal points with Haven.
In A Special, Central Park Blue edged out Haven on games, Central Park Red defeated Horsham Lawn, Drung South accounted for Natimuk, and Noradjuha had a solid win against Homers.
Only two matches were played in A Grade, with Laharum forfeiting to Horsham Lawn and Brimpaen forfeiting to Quantong.
St Michael's and Kalkee played out a thriller, with the Saints narrowly getting over the line. In the other match, ladder leaders Central Park defeated Haven.
The B Special matches were a little one-sided, with Horsham Lawn and Natimuk both enjoying comfortable victories.
