A Country Fire Authority spokesperson said crews were called to the scene on Friday morning.
The haystack fire was on McPhersons Road.
The spokesperson said the fire was not under control, but there was no immediate threat to the community.
“Smoke will be visible from nearby roads and communities as firefighters pull apart the hay to extinguish the fire,” they said.
“Haystack fires are not likely to spread into grassland but do generate a lot of smoke.”
The fire has come on a state-wide Total Fire Ban day. The Wimmera and Mallee regions are bracing itself for a scorcher as temperatures are set to soar to the mid-40s.
