The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a top of 38 degrees for Horsham today.
Residents will feel a slight drop in temperature to 36 and 37 over Saturday and Sunday. The temperatures, however, are set to rise to the low 40s next week.
Warracknabeal and Nhill will experience similar forecasts whereas Edenhope will reach the high 30s.
The bureau’s senior meteorologist Tom Delamotte said the temperature has been expected to jump to the high 30s in the inland areas of the state today.
“We will see temperatures jump tomorrow as northwesterly winds develop across the state ahead of a trough moving in from South Australia,” he said.
“That will drag the very warm air sitting in the inland of Australia down to Victoria and with that temperatures will be jumping up to the high 30s.”
Mr Delamotte said people could feel a “little bit of relief” on Saturday afternoon, but it will be short lived with a hot Sunday forecast for the inland parts of the state.
He said temperatures will push to the low to mid 40s for the first half of next week.
“There will be no wind coming through the state or systems to flush out the hot air,” he said. “The temperature will once again jump on Monday, pushing to low to mid 40s in inland Victoria.”
