Tom Blair, his son Geoffrey and grandson Tobias all took to the lawn in division 2 of Wimmera Bowls Association action.
Tom has been playing bowls for nearly forty years and Geoffrey nearly twenty. Tobias recently started getting involved with the bowls through social bowling, showing a natural talent for the game.
With a few regulars missing, the trio were able to play together in competition for the first time.
Tom Blair said it was a great moment for himself and the family.
“I was quite honoured,” Blair said. “It was nice when the selectors said we might be able to put us all together in a team. It was pretty special.”
While Tom and Geoffrey have played together for some time, they’ve managed to remain friendly.
“Him and I don’t fight so I guess that’s a good thing. Not yet anyway,” Tom said.
The Blair’s had a close contest against Maurice Bone’s team from Nhill. The match finished as a draw, but Tom said it could have gone a different way.
“It was a tight game against the Nhill fellas, they didn’t give us an inch,” Tom said.
“We could’ve won the game but on the second last bowl I bumped one of our balls. I think it was meant to be a draw.”
The next step for the Blair trio is to convince one more member of the family to get involved, creating an all-Blair foursome.
Geoffrey’s brother Peter seems to be the obvious candidate.
“That was the next step to get Peter down,” Tom said. “It’s not quite four generations but a full team of Blair’s.”
