Until January 1, dual trainer-jockey licence holders could not ride in NSW.
After calls for Racing NSW to join Racing Victoria in permitting dual licence holders to compete, Meech took the opportunity to race at Randwick for the first time at Randwick since 2015.
She made the opportunity worthwhile. She won the first two races of the January 12 meet on Star Fall and Smart As.
While she continues to enjoy plenty of success in her jockey career, Meech said her very long term goal will be to move into training.
“It is very long term but it is the path I want to take,” she said.
Meech has established her stable in Stawell, currently working with just two horses. She said the location of the stables in Stawell is a key reason she has set herself up there. “It’s central to most country tracks,” she said.
After working within the racing industry all her life, Meech will utilise her knowledge upon training her horses.
“I currently only have two horses,” she said. “Riding is my number one priority at the moment and my brother helps out with looking after the horses while I am away.”
Meech has had a terrific season where she leads the Victorian jockey premiership with 74 wins since August 1. She also tops the Victorian country win ranks, sits third in the national country premiership and is fourth in the overall national win ladder.
Meech’s strong run of form has continuted from an outstanding 2017-18 season.
She finished last season as the second most successful jokey in the state, winning 124 races to finish with just give wins shy of claiming the Victorian jockey premiership.
Meech has more chances to add to her tally on Friday as she is listed for six rides at Ararat.
