The Lady Hornets were on the back-foot from the opening quarter, as a nervous start turned into a 13-21 deficit at quarter time.
But the Horsham based side fought incredibly hard to get back into the contest and surged to a one-point lead with six minutes left in the match.
However, having expended so much energy to get back into the contest, the Lady Hornets ran out of steam in the closing stages and were unable to breakdown the Magic’s stifling defence.
On the other end of the court, Millicent’s two stars Emily Winter and Olivia Fuller were unstoppable, combining for nine of the sides final 11 points and guiding the Magic to the 9 point win.
The final score was 62-71.
Lady Hornets coach Damien Kilpatrick said some costly turnovers hurt his side.
“Their pressure was very good and we just turned it over a bit too much,” he said.
“We were chasing from the first two minutes but to the girls credit we didn’t give up, we kept on fighting and finding a way to score.
“It showed how much fight the girls have got, we didn’t give up once.
“Millicent are a well drilled and united team – their two main scorers are brilliant basketballers.
“We just couldn’t get there in the end.”
Ema Iredell top scored for the Lady Hornets with 19 points while Faith McKenzie and Caitlin Story both had 15.
Although disappointed their season ended a week early, Kilpatrick said he was proud of the effort this season.
“I thought the year itself was great – this conference is a lot harder than last years and I thought we did a great job,” he said.
“The whole year has been a learning curve but I’m really happy with how it all went – naturally I would’ve liked to win the whole thing but there’s nothing I would change about this season.”
