The nomination recognises the association for its outstanding junior program and an initiative to livestream matches on social media.
The association is one of several nominated for the Community Cricket Initiative of the Year award, with the winner announced at Cricket Victoria's "A Sport For All Awards" night in Melbourne on Thursday.
The association's president Ben Duxson said it was pleasing to earn recognition for the junior program.
"We've been doing a heap of work with our junior kids - that's a really big focus," Duxson said.
"The school kids start with our junior camp in September (and) that has really worked well. Cricket Victoria knows of that camp and they know it's one of the best camps going around."
Duxson said the association was passionate about keeping cricket popular among the younger generation.
"Our thoughts, as an association, is to resource the kids as much as possible," Duxson said.
"We have the talent there - it's just about getting them to play, getting them coached and well drilled, and seeing cricket as a sport that is worth playing."
The other major reason for the nomination was the live-streaming of matches to Facebook.
"We live-streamed our country week cricket from Warnambool, Portland and Bendigo - just so ex-players or community members can easily jump on Facebook and have a look and see how we're going," Duxson said.
"That has been really good just to get people watching and thinking about cricket."
Duxson said the association was "pretty proud" to be nominated for the award and recognised for its contribution to cricket. He said the association would continue to adapt and strive for a healthy future.
"We're just big believers in cricket in the area," Duxson said.
"We'll keep on with the ideas and different things to keep moving forward - we will put a bit more emphasis on female participation moving forward which has been really on the rise.
"We're just lucky the volunteers are good, the cricketers are good and we're making an environment that is good to come and play in."
