To see the new 'southside' walking track sealed, now all the way to the weir, and with the Apex 'Pump Track' now open, along with the other improvements on Adventure Island ... as we glided under that big new bridge my mind wandered back 10 years.
It was back in 2009, on Easter Sunday, after the dawn church service, that Chris and I 'walked' across, to the other side, of a dry Wimmera River bed.
Back in those days, it had been a long time since good rains had fallen, with the drama of Black Saturday fresh in our memories, we wondered how much longer the drought would go on for. Then, in September 2010 and January 2011 it rained... lots!
It would be fair to say an amazing 'transformation' took place as the Wimmera River filled and flowed again.
Transformation. This is what we used to be - this is what we are becoming.
Currently, your Council is doing some serious 'Strategic Planning'.
Under the banner of "Transforming Horsham", four important pieces of work are being undertaken:
- The Horsham Urban Transport Plan
- The Municipal Open Space Strategy
- The Horsham South Structure Plan and
- The Wimmera River and Central Horsham Visioning Project
We are on the pathway to move from a growing regional country town to a small, modern regional city. But it's more than just Horsham, all parts of the Municipality have a part to play. Take the time to be 'part of the solution' and have your say.
Follow the progress through the media, on council's Website and Facebook.
Finally, I must share a few thoughts about the passing of former mayor and councillor of the Horsham Rural City, and councillor at the Bulla Shire, Heather Phillips from Natimuk.
Heather was committed to her role as a councillor and her love of things 'environmental' and anything to do with native wildlife. To see Heather sitting at the briefing table on a Monday night, bottle feeding an injured or orphaned joey, was not unusual. She was a talented artist, passionate rock climber, croquet player and a worthy local representative who was not afraid to 'rattle the cage' and stand up for a cause. Vale 'H'.
