Dianne Shanaughan is happy to help Pimpinio behind the scenes

Shanaughan has been involved at Pimpinio for decades, and has remained a loyal volunteer long after her children moved away from the area.

Pimpinio president Trevor Baker described Shanaughan as someone doing volunteer work 24/7, working in the canteen, stocking the bar and making sure everything is running smoothly.

But while she is a well known servant around the club, Shanaughan said she wasn't interested in the spotlight for her volunteering work.

"I've just never been that sort of person," Shanaughan said.

"I love helping out the club and the community, but you're not really doing it for the recognition. Of course it is great to get a thank you every now and then, but you're not out the front waiting for something like that.

"I do it because I enjoy the community involvement and the socialising. It's a great community and a great family club."

Shanaughan - who has lived in Pimpinio for more than 40 years - said keeping the football netball club up and running was vital to the town.

"You're supporting the football netball club, but you're also supporting the community by helping to keep it running," Shanaughan said.

"We used to have the school, and that was good for community and bringing people together for a number of years. Now the sporting club and the football netball club - and the church too - are the key community organisations.

"It's good to be able to do your bit to help keep them together. The only way things like this survive nowadays is with volunteers."
