Brimpaen's Luke and Rachel Dunn sold a pen of 32 lambs for $325 a head, setting a new state record.

It comes after lambs sold for a record $301 a head in Horsham last week.

However, the record was beaten later that day with lambs selling for $308 a head at Warracknabeal.

The record was broken again on Tuesday with lambs selling for $320 a head at Ballarat.

Rodwells Wimmera area manager Wayne Driscoll said it was another excellent result for the region.

"We've clipped last week's record and we now have the new state record for the week - for at least the next five minutes anyway," he said.

"This is a zone we have never been in before and we really don't know where the market is going, no one knows."

Mr Driscoll said while the market reached some high prices for lambs this week, the average price for the day was probably lower.

"We had a few elite heavy lambs, but we had some middle lambs that weren't as dear on Wednesday as they were last week," he said.

"We are taking the market now on a day-by-day basis - we could easily be $20 cheaper next week.

"But we'll take what we can get though."

Mr Dunn said it was the highest price he had ever got for lambs over his career.

"It was phenomenal," he said.

"It was probably about $60 above what I had ever had before."

Mr Dunn said the lambs dressed weight was 40 kilograms and 85 kilograms live weight.

"They were the heaviest lambs I've ever sold too - they were about 12 months old and were in excellent condition," he said.

"I wasn't expecting that result - I thought with the way the market had gone earlier this week I could be in the $300 zone, but I wasn't expecting that high."

Mr Dunn said the strong market was a boost to producers in the region.

"We've had very little rain the past months and conditions have been dry," he said.
