Naracoorte artist Jan Miles will display traditional Japanese silk embroidery work until late June.
Miles is an internationally recognised artist and has reached stage 10 accreditation in traditional Japanese silk embroidery.
Gallery co-ordinator Tricia Arber said Miles had worked as an artist for a long time.
"She was previously into heavy quilting until it was out of fashion. Then she started making quilted jackets," she said.
"She also does ribbon work for endless hours. There is so much work that goes into it."
Mrs Arber said she aimed to display new artwork every month or so. She said that gave local artists a platform to be recognised.
"We want to show what artists are doing in the region. The work and craftsmanship they show can be something people have never seen before," she said.
"Next month we have an artist named Rachel Bywater displaying her Aboriginal artwork in the gallery. We haven't had anything like that before."
Mrs Arber said she wanted to highlight the different genres of art in the region.
"Art can be of any form. It could be a painting, embroidery or jewellery. We aim to keep all types of craft alive and not lose the ability to do that craft," she said.
The gallery also hosts classes by patchworkers, weavers and botanical artists.
Miles' work are available for purchase, except for one named 'Jake Box'. The artwork is a detailed embroidered flower work with gold overtones.
Mrs Arber said: "The piece is very close to her heart. She couldn't bear parting with it. It is so painstaking to make such work.
"She carefully separates the thread with her hands to work with just one strand at a time.
"We are really proud to have an internationally acclaimed artist exhibit her work in the gallery."
Gallery volunteer Christine Gerdtz has been lending a hand for the past 20 years.
An art enthusiast and member of the Horsham Patchwork Quilters, Mrs Gerdtz said she admired the intricate work of Miles' work.
"I love that the gallery gives an opportunity to individuals to exhibit their passion," she said.
She said people needed to understand art to appreciate the work by the artists.
"My favourite work by Jan Miles is, 'Mums and Arabesque'. I like how Jan has played with the autumn tone and put the layout together," she said.
About 10 of Miles' pieces are up for sale and prices range from $20 to $650.
Mrs Arber said people wanting more information could phone 0422 043 906.
