Matthew James Hutchins appeared in Horsham Magistrates' Court on Monday.
He was charged with carrying an offensive weapon and pleaded guilty.
The court heard that Hutchins was going through security at the Horsham courthouse on January 8 when officers detected the weapon.
The weapon was a small knife on his key-ring.
Hutchins told the court that the weapon had been on his keys for ages and he didn't even think about it.
Magistrate Peter Dunn fined Hutchins $750 and told him he couldn't have the knife back.
