John O'Donnell, 50, appeared at Horsham Magistrates' Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to theft.
On February 5 O'Donnell was at Horsham's Aldi supermarket when he placed a 700ml bottle of scotch, valued at $30, in his shorts pocket.
The court heard O'Donnell left the store without paying for the item.
The supermarket's manager contacted police and provided them with CCTV footage.
On February 18 O'Donnell attended the supermarket again. The manager took a photo of O'Donnell and sent it to police.
Police arrested and interviewed O'Donnell on March 3. He made admissions to taking the bottle.
O'Donnell told police it was "a silly decision" and said he wanted to go to Aldi and pay for the bottle, but had not been allowed in the shop.
Magistrate Bruce Cottrill ordered O'Donnell to pay a $200 fine, plus $84 for court costs. He will also have to pay restitution $30.
