Former trainer Darren Weir retired the horse after it finished 16th out of 18 at the Group One Toorak Handicap in October 2018.
But Smith acquired Weir's stable in May and has since announced his intentions to reintroduce Black Heart Bart to competitive racing.
Fellow Group One winner Malaguerra also ran at the Horsham racecourse on Wednesday in a jump-out.
Black Heart Bart has won almost $4 million in prize money across its illustrious career, and has ridden against famed-thoroughbred Winx on several occasions.
Famed Horsham jockey Dean Yendell rode alongside Black Heart Bart in Horsham.
