The severity or quantity of one's sin does not matter to the Holy God ...

In his famous book Pilgrims Progress, John Bunyan eloquently referred to this phenomenon for what it really is - sin.
The truth is, God has written His laws on the heart of every individual so we inherently know the difference between right and wrong. No one is immune. I have to constantly remind myself that you and I are sinners, subject to the laws of God.
In human terms, the severity or quantity of one's sin does not matter to the Holy God; sin is sin and can lead us to eternal separation from our God.
So, if the burden of past sin plagues you, I have good news. Jesus has come to take our sin and set us free through His own death and resurrection.
Let me recount a story about the great reformer, Martin Luther, who was visited by the devil in a dream. The devil produced a scroll and began to accuse Martin Luther of all his past sins.
On reaching the end of the first scroll, Luther asked the devil, "Is that all?" The devil replied, "No", and a second scroll was thrust in front of Luther and the accusations continued.
This was followed by a third and final list.
Luther then exclaimed triumphantly, "You forgot something, written on each scroll are the words - "The blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son cleanses us from all sins." (1 John 1:7)
There is another promise in 1 John 1:9 - "If we confess our sins, Jesus is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Let's take hold of it!
