We might have thought that last week when top-of-the-table Coughlin Park 1 travelled to play bottom-placed Nhill, but after a couple of wins on their own grass green the Parkers were met by good opposition on the synthetic in the shadow of the silos, playing a draw and taking eight points each.
But that wasn't an uncommon occurrence for Coughlin Park teams that played on Saturday and Monday.
From seven Coughlin Park Club teams, five played in draws; in the Weekend Pennant their one and two sides drew, their fourth side drew with City 3 in Division 3 and in Midweek Division 2 their third side drew with Edenhope in addition to the draw just mentioned in Division 1.
Horsham City 1 took advantage of their home carpet to get back into third spot with a maximum point win over Kaniva.
A nine-shot win to Betty Cozens rink, 13 to Sandra Knight and eight to Elaine Mitchell on their rinks added up to a 30-shot margin and 16 valuable points.
Dimboola consolidated second spot by winning by five shots over Sunnyside 1. Each side won one rink and the Lehmann and Janetzki rinks drew.
Serviceton continues to sit well clear on top in Midweek Division 2, but didn't have it all their own way in their first visit to the new Sunnyside deck. The Rambousek rink got up by two shots over Loma Wallis and her team to give the Siders two points, but a nine-shot win on the other rink meant Serviceton remains undefeated and 29 points clear on top.
The draw between Coughlin Park 3 and Goroke leaves Goroke in fourth spot, five points clear of the two Coughlin Park sides who each have 49 points. Horsham City 2 had a comfortable win over Coughlin Park 2, two rinks to the City side and a 24-shot on one of them the big difference.
Natimuk did what was needed to hold third spot with a 13-shot win at home over Edenhope.
The biggest danger for Edenhope people would be tripping over the wallet of a First Cross Ewe breeder after the strength of the sale they had down there last week.
With Midweek Bowls is played on Monday, scores are often too late for the Wednesday paper deadline so Midweek Pennant reports have been appearing nine days after they have played.
From next week, Midweek Pennant reports will appear in the Friday paper of the week they are played, and the weekend report will continue to be in Wednesday's paper.
