Junior football director Robert Goudie suggested buying the van as a club investment in 2013 and approached Wombat Conversions about transforming it into a custom-designed mobile coffee van.

The van was built during the summer months and Mr Goudie and fellow club committee members Janette Taylor, Christine Chapple and Peter Miller were trained as baristas in preparation for the next football season.

Mr Goudie said unfortunately the club lost players at the start of that season before merging with Natimuk Football Club in Horsham District Football League, leaving them with a van - but no plan.

"The new club chose not to buy the van, so we were left with a brand new van and trained volunteer baristas with no one to service," he said.

Mr Goudie said the group saw an opportunity to raise money to support the construction of the Wimmera Cancer Centre.

"We spent the next few years attending football matches and various community events making coffee and selling hot jam donuts," he said.

"By the time we had made enough profit to pay for the van, the cancer centre no longer required the funding - so we are presenting $35,000 to the foundation instead."

Mr Goudie said the experience was enjoyable and took them to many great events - from football grand finals to a Lee Kernaghan concert.

"There were times at some of the bigger events where we just went flat chat making coffee for long lines of customers, but we had plenty of fun moments along the way," he said.

Mr Goudie shared some advice for others looks to try something different to raise money.

"The important thing is if you are going to do any fundraising, have some fun doing it," he said.

He said the other key to their success was knowing they could turn a profit from their venture, which they ensured by selling coffee - a popular product - and keeping costs down by using volunteers as baristas.

The final funds for the donation came from selling the coffee van to Horsham caterer Brad Wade, who provides a regular morning service from O'Callaghan Parade.

Foundation chairman Graeme Hardman said the donation would allow Wimmera Health Care Group to purchase more medical equipment and infrastructure for the hospital.

"The foundation is always appreciative of such a generous donation," he said. "We recently purchased a colposcope for gynecology and we are looking at funding a theatre tracking system in the near future."
