Bureau of Meterology duty forecaster Peter Blake said while it would be relatively dry for the rest of Thursday, there would be increasing moisture in the air from Friday through until Saturday evening.
"It will be a difficult night of sleep on Friday with temperatures expected to only get as low as 22-23 degrees overnight in the region," he said.
"A few places will have a minimum temperature that is a bit higher but it will depend on how much rain and thunder they get."
Mr Blake said the Wimmera could expect about 1-5mm of rainfall on Friday and about 10-20mm on Saturday.
He said temperatures were expected to reach a high of 41 degrees on Friday, before dropping to about 28 degrees on Saturday.
"A cool change will come through on Saturday which will clear the tropical air," he said.
The Country Fire Authority has declared a total fire ban for the Wimmera on Friday with a severe fire danger rating.
A total fire ban has also been declared for the Mallee, Northern Country, North Central, South and West Central regions on Friday.
No fires can be lit in the open air on Friday between 00.01 on Friday and 23.59.
The CFA has advised people living in areas at risk of fire to activate their bushfire plan.
