Mr Brittain said the firefighters were called to the intersection of the Henty Highway and Wonwondah-Toolondo Road around 11.15am on Tuesday.
"A water tanker working with the grader extinguished it," he said.
"What the council did is what we would expect anyone to do if a fire starts and they've got the equipment and availability to fight it. Well done to the council for preventing the spread of the fire."
Mr Brittain also said the owner of a property at Neuarpurr in the West Wimmera extinguished a small fire first reported at 9.50am.
