Kaniva and District Association secretary Helen Hobbs brings community together with Easter video

The secretary of the Kaniva and District Association invited people to submit clips wishing others a Happy Easter, which she compiled into a video to share on social media, by email and even be played on lounge room TVs.

"It's a bit like Kaniva television," she said. "You've got things like people that normally would have come here to visit their families sending messages and local people who live here."

"I was really thinking about the residents, a lot of the older people in nursing homes and then people who don't have social media and the internet."

"What I've found is that it's all good to pick up a phone and call people but I've found that with my family in England it's seeing familiar faces that really helps," she said.

"So really that was the thought that underpinned it and then the isolation on the farm: to reach people and let them know we're all here."

Mrs Hobbs said she received over 40 videos ranging from advice about taking care of your mental health, poetry, cooking demonstrations and dance routines.

""It's just a very broad cross-section of the community," she said. "It's not very polished, it's just what people sent me via their telephone. I've even got the mayor in there doing something.

"For some of these people that's the first time they've ever made a little video clip and sent it via messenger but it looks really good."

Mrs Hobbs said she has been encouraging people to download the video onto a usb so they can help people without the internet to be able to view the video.

"The hospital basically said don't worry we will make sure it gets into all of those houses," she said.
