After a wet and cool autumn, winter is here and it's set to be - well, wet and cool still.
I know a lot of people who love the cold weather. I am not one of those people.
The romanticised version of winter is staying in, curling up in front of a roaring wood fire (or decent gas or electric alternative), drinking warm drinks and staying cosy in your own little world while wind and rain batter the external world, just outside your periphery.
Right now we're in a kind of seasonal jetlag, because while the wintry weather is pushing us to stay inside and avoid people, the easing of coronavirus restrictions means we're ready to leave hibernation and emerge into "spring" with a handful of our nearest and dearest.
Dinner dates, weekends away and adventures are all on the cards.
But now, after months of wishing we could do something with our friends, the weather makes the idea of leaving the house formidable.
Is this such a bad thing at this point in the pandemic? I'm excited to see friends I haven't been able to in several weeks, but I'm still nervous about what might happen if we jump into our "old lives" again too quickly.
If winter keeps us all a little more cautious, even as the excitement of weekend plans again takes hold, surely that is a good thing.
But I still hope we can move onto the warmer weather faster - and even more so, the end of this pandemic.
How are you feeling about things? Flick me an email to let me know.
