That's not the case for Rainbow resident Ellisha Martion and her partner Ben Moles.

Mr Moles resides in Queensland with closed borders to Victoria due to the second wave spike in coronavirus cases.

If meeting in their home states wasn't going to be made difficult, the couple had planned to meet in Sydney.

"I waited a few days before I bought the tickets and when I heard the announcement the border was closed was heartbreaking," she said.

"I know we can still FaceTime but it's just not the same.

"I was shattered when the announcement of the borders shutting came through. I sent Ben a message saying I was willing to drive to Wollongong to meet him before closures came into place."

Ms Martion said it was difficult for Mr Moles to obtain time off work with such short notice after only returning to work in the past few weeks due to the pandemic.

The couple met in Melbourne a number of years ago and wasn't afraid of committing to a long-distance relationship.

"When we first got together we were seeing each other once a month," Ms Martion said.

"We would spend holidays together in a number of different locations.

"We got back from a holiday in Tasmania the day before the state closed its borders to help stop the spread of the coronavirus."

Tasmania closed its borders on March 19, the decision was some of the country's toughest measures at the time and was requiring non-essential travellers to self-isolate for 14 days.

"That has been the main issue on why we haven't seen each other," Ms Martion said.

"It's just not viable for us to have to wait out the 14 day quarantine period."

Ms Martion said the couple would be looking at options for a longer-term solution for the future.
