Country Fire Authority commander Gavin Hope has confirmed Wednesday night's chimney fire was in fact a false alarm.
Mr Hope said the three brigades found the smoke coming from the house to be the result of "normal chimney action".
"Two people were evacuated, but there was no fire," he said.
"It is what we call a false alarm good intent."
Wednesday: Horsham, Natimuk and Vectis fire crews headed to Quantong-Polkemmett Road on Wednesday night, where a chimney fire affected a rural property.
A VicEmergency spokesman said they received the call at 7.12pm. He said the Natimuk brigade left the scene at 7.40pm.
