Bug R Off Pest Busters owner Steve Olver has won Pest Manager of the Year for a medium-size business at the Australian Environmental Pest Managers Association awards.
Mr Olver said the judges were impressed with how the Horsham business has adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Our disinfection service involves fogging which kills the virus; the judges thought that was awesome," he said.
"The industry loves the fact we are different - we use termite detection dogs and invented our termite baiting stations.
"We put a lot of training into our employees and we have female technicians, which is something our business has focused on in the past year.
"The judges also liked our honesty about making mistakes and trying to fix them."
Mr Olver has used termite detection dogs for 12 years and their current dog Sherlock has been with them for three years.
"For every inspection we use Sherlock to help us find termites," he said.
"Sherlock runs through the outside of the house and sits when he finds the termites under the ground."
Australian Environmental Pest Managers Association has an awards ceremony, but this year due to COVID-19 restrictions it was announced Thursday on social media.
The AEPMA represents professional pest managers across Australia, sets standards for the pest management industry, and provides information to consumers on urban pest control.
"Our business has grown through the pandemic which proves just what an awesome team we have," Mr Olver said.
"This award is also for the community who have supported Bug R Off Pest Busters over the past 12 years."
"We started this business from scratch in 2008 and wouldn't be here without them.
"Our national recognition is a reflection of the Wimmera community and their commitment to us."
