Seb Ross has reportedly visited the Essendon setup in the past weeks, sparking talks of a move to Tullamarine.
The former Horsham Demon is contracted to St Kilda for next season, but lost midfield rank to a number of teammates this season and could fall further down the pecking order should the Saints' linked recruits join the club.
Ross is the nephew of Dimboola and Bombers icon Tim Watson.
St Kilda has played down any talks of Essendon interest in the 27-year-old.
Edenhope-Apsley product Oscar McDonald is another player whose future may be decided this trade period, after falling out of favour with Melbourne.
The defender is off-contract and has not yet been offered a new deal by the club.
MAKING NEWS ACROSS THE WIMMERA:
McDonald's manager Alex McDonald told AFL Trade Radio's The Late Trade that he was hoping to secure a move for his client.
"With Steven May and Jake Lever as well as Adam Tomlinson, Oscar has been squeezed out," he said.
"He did play some forward and ruck towards the end of last year and the scrimmage matches this year, at his age I'm hoping he might be a delisted free agent if a trade can't get done."
