The warm weather with which the Wimmera has welcomed a new week won't last, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Senior forecaster Chris Arvier said while it would stay hot on Tuesday, a "significant" change would move across the state on Wednesday.
"We will see numbers eight to twelve degrees above the average November temperature on Tuesday, and beyond that we've got a very warm night heading into Wednesday," he said.
"We are expecting a few thunderstorms tomorrow, most likely in the Wimmera and Mallee districts in the afternoon, likely to be quite dry thunderstorms.
"We could also see some gusty winds with those storms. We are expecting the fire danger ratings to be around the very high mark for the north west of the state."
Mr Arvier said storms would also be likely across Victoria's west on Wednesday afternoon, before reaching the central and Melbourne districts that evening.
"We will be issuing warnings for those when we see them develop during the day," he said.
"In terms of the rainfall totals, it's looking like seeing falls of around the five to ten millimetre mark across much of the west and central parts of the state, but it's hit and miss: Some areas might see up to 50 millimetres in those storms."
