On his first time sitting on the Mitchell Freedman-trained three-year-old, Yendall settled near the front before nipping away with 200 meters to go to secure the Portarlington Footy/Netball Maiden Plate by two lengths.

"(It was) very good. He's a pretty forward individual, the way he went about his business. Mitch didn't give me a huge push for him. He said that he might be wanting to run, basically," Yendall told racing.com.

"Basically, it was just riding neutral - trying to hide enough as long as I could to try and help him get through the trip.

"But, he travelled really well. I put him to the sword, well and truly, into the straight.

"He went around business really well and ran his line really strongly. I think (Mitch) might have a horse on his hands.

The veteran Horsham hoop also bagged two third-place finishes at a successful meet.

Just days earlier, the six-time group one winner was back on board Bella Tiarra - who he rode to victory in the $135,000 Carol Watson Handicap early in 2021.

History wasn't to repeat itself, despite Yendall's best efforts, with the three-year-old slipping away on the home straight to a second-place finish in the $135,000 Tile Importer Handicap.
