Berry has spent the past four years with the Phantoms' women's program, taking the sides to a new level of success.
The club's male counterparts have struggled to reach the same heights, motivating the famed coach to shoulder the new role.
"The men have yet to make the finals in the premier division, and I thought it was time that I could give back to the men's program," Berry said.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge, especially with such a young and enthusiastic group coming up through the ranks, many of whom have played national juniors and been members of Australian youth teams."
Preparations are ramping up for the new-look 2021 Victorian Volleyball League season.
The Phantoms return to Horsham this weekend for a second, and final, selection trial.
Volleyball Horsham is well represented with Nathan Berry, Jack Hannan, Chris Radford, Matthew Berry and Cam Robinson all fighting to make the cut.
"Matthew Berry is very fit and his setting was consistent, while Nathan, Jack, Cam and Chris were stand outs throughout, especially in matchplay," Berry said.
Male and female players from across western Victoria will descend on St Brigid's stadium for the trial.
MAKING NEWS TODAY:
The Wimmera's hopefuls impressed in the first trial, held in Ballarat last weekend.
"Watching the matchplay of both groups, I thought the standard of play was quite high, and very competitive, especially with the girls," Volleyball Horsham member Kara Johnson said.
"There was Cleo Baker, Laelah Robertson, Tamikah Dockrill and I trialing, and those younger members were very impressive.
"We expect Emily Hannan and Hannah Whyte to attend this week, which would be a good representation from Volleyball Horsham."
