Horsham Angling Club President Alan Clyne said the group favoured the move, which would allow fishing cod between September 1 and November 30.
"We are all in favour of it, having a full season we can fish out there. Murray cod don't breed too much in this water anyhow," he said.
"It certainly brings people here all year round. If they have a closed season then they will come here which will be a benefit for us."
The proposed closed season removal would only apply to the Wimmera and Millicent basins and exclude the Wimmera River.

Mr Clyne praised the Victorian Fisheries Authority's recent initiatives in promoting fishing across Victoria as part of the Victorian Government's $35 million Target One Million plan.
He said programs like the Golden Tagged Fish competition has helped angling groups recover from the COVID-19 lockdown.
"The tagged fish you have out and about have created a lot more interest in fishing. That has been a good incentive to get kids and people out fishing that would never usually do it," he said.
"In one way it has been a loss for the club but it has also been a win because we were able to host competitions even though we weren't able to have our presentation days."
Victorian Fisheries Authority Chief Executive Officer Travis Dowling said the plan would deliver year-round fishing opportunities to the Wimmera.
"All these lakes are stocked, and natural breeding of Murray cod is typically low, so it doesn't make sense to have a closed season that unnecessarily limits fishing," he said.
"The Wimmera and Millicent basins are outside of the natural range of the species and more than two million Murray cod have been stocked into their waters since 2000. A further 600,000 Murray cod will be stocked there next summer."
Mr Dowling said removing the closed season for Murray cod in Lake Eildon during 2015 proved to be successful and hoped to replicate the Wimmera results.
The cod fisheries would include Taylors Lake, Lake Charlegrak, and Rocklands Basin.
