The trend is made even more impressive considering many areas in Victoria are currently struggling with finding officials.
"Unprecedently well," Pickering said of umpire numbers in the Wimmera.
"The best growth we've seen in considerable time."
Because of the high numbers, Pickering said the competition was starting to heat up for senior games.
"We're starting to get to the pointy end of the season, we've got more people capable of umpiring seniors than games. It's fantastic," he said.
Despite the numbers, Pickering assures that no umpire misses out on a game and said there were still plenty of opportunities for people to take up umpiring.
"We still need more, of course to add to the quality and the depth," he said.
"Pretty much everyone is still doing their two games a week."
It's not just field umpire numbers that are looking healthy in the Wimmera but goal umpires as well.
"We've got almost too many goal umpires or goal umpires upset they're not getting senior games. Which is fantastic," Pickering said.
Pickering believes the increase in officials comes down to people's appreciation of having country football back.
"Everyone's wanting to come back to community level footy and just (showing) immense gratitude for having the game back, and that carries on through to the respect of the umpires," he said.
"We've got guys from Melbourne wanting to come back; a goal umpire travels up from Hamilton every week at his own cost.
"There's a guy coming across from Bendigo, Wangaratta to get a game. We're going really well, we've picked up another female boundary who's had nothing to do with football and netball, just looking for another form of employment."
