CELEBRITY gardener Costa Georgiadis will launch an online learning festival aimed at getting children to explore nature in their local area.
GWMWater has partnered with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning to provide the week-long Explore your Backyard event, which begins on October 17.
The online festival will provide children with a series of gardening activities, on-demand workshops and tours, and live webinars.
GWMWater Communications and Engagement manager Adele Rohde said the festival would focus on water conservation and exploring nature in and around the Wimmera - whether a waterway or a veggie patch.
"The activities have been designed to suit a range of ages, interests, topics and learning goals, and can be accessed from the comfort of home or classrooms," she said.
"Most importantly we hope participants have a bit of fun, learn something new and enjoy exploring their own backyard.
This will be the first year GWMWater has taken part in the online learning festival.
"At GWMWater our preference is to get out in the community to interact with our customers but in the current environment, that isn't possible. The opportunity to join forces with other water organisations and run an online festival gives us a great way to engage, and over a larger area," she said.
The event will be launched by Costa Georgiadis, with an exclusive Facebook live chat at 4pm on Sunday, October 17, and continue through to October 24.
In the lead-up, students and community members within Victoria are invited to get creative and take part in a photo competition for the chance to win a $100 gift voucher.
Entries close at 5 pm on Monday 18 October and entrants can submit one or more photos capturing how they save water in their backyard or garden.
