Event manager Murray Wilson said there was still seven weeks until the field days so flood waters would recede and it would be the greenest field days ever.

"The field days will still be happening. The water out here has come from Misery Creek and a few other creeks that come into it," Mr Wilson said.

"The site will dry out, we will be back out there in three or so weeks which is enough time to replace carpets and clean up around the site.

"One good thing is we will have a very green field days, no dust and it will be nice and lush - that will be a different looking field days."

Mr Wilson said although the site was flooded, it was business as usual.

"We have already secured an office in town temporarily so we can continue the administration side of things," he said. "We still had an exhibitor ring up to book a site this morning.

"No exhibitors have concerns so we are confident fine Wimmera summer weather will dry everything out."

Mr Wilson said the committee had no idea the flood would be so bad.

"It was very unique, and unique for the field days, to have this much water. It has never happened in 50 years," he said.

"It was two-foot deep through the office, sheds and pavilion, all our computers and historical stuff were above the height of the water so that wasn't damaged. Basically, we will have to fix the carpets and a fridge or two.

"There wasn't warning it would be like this, it is a one-in-200 year flood though.

"We knew the creek would flood, but not that far up. We considered some sandbagging but we were only going to do a few at the doors so the flood would have gone over it anyway. But it is the first time since 2001 that the dam is chockablock full."

Field days president Bryan Matuschka said damage from the flood could total $100,000 at the site and they did not have flood insurance.

"It is a lot of money for a not-for-profit organisation," Mr Matuschka said.

"I couldn't believe it, the information we had was that it would come nowhere near us. The saving grace is the office girls had computers on desks and the only stuff for this year's field days was in a plastic tub on the floor, the tubs floated up and everything was fine."

Mr Matuschka is worried about finding the man power to restore the site.

"It is disappointing this close to the event. The first half hour of looking at it I thought, 'how are we going to run this event in a few weeks?' But then we realised it was just business as usual and we have a show to put on," he said.

"My biggest concern is volunteers for the clean-up, most of our committee still has harvesting to do.
