That is to have a great day out learning about the latest developments in the agriculture industry.
Retired Wycheproof farmer Keith McLennan has attended the event almost every year since it started in 1979.
He said many things had changed over the decades.
“I like coming here to see the changes in the industry; you really wouldn’t believe some of the changes that have happened,” he said.
“When I was young, I used to drive a 35 foot header, but now things are just getting bigger and bigger.
“The Speed field days are the best because of the way it’s all set out.
“I just a really nice day to enjoy being out and about.”
He said he used visit to the event with Max McQuinn of McQuinn Maintenance and Manufacturing to help sell grain storage bins.
“I used to go around to all the field days with him,” he said.
“We would be selling these bins for more than $30,000 back in the day.”
Dimboola farmers Robert and Gloria Glatz are also regular attendees of the event.
The couple grow cereals, pulses and oils on their farm.
“We come every year; I find it to be a really user friendly event with the way it’s set out in a circle,” Mr Glatz said.
“It’s a really relaxed atmosphere and you don’t feel under pressure to buy. We’re just window shopping today and enjoying a nice day out.”
He said there had been many changes in the industry in recent years.
“The size of the machines and the advancements in technology has changed so much,” he said.
“It’s seems like everything has got bigger – including the farms.”
He said this year’s harvest was looking positive on his farm.
“We’re really quite happy with how this year is going,” he said.
“I suppose things are a little bit behind from the usual, but that’s just the way it is. We’re not on heavy plains which makes a difference.”
