Haydon Tapscott from Apsley Primary School won the boys competition, shooting a five over 40 for the nine holes. He will progress through along with Jack Gillin from Horsham West and Jack Clemenston from Stawell, who both shot 44.
Izabella McIntyre from Horsham West won on the girls side of the tournament, eight shots in front of second placed Ella Thompson from Horsham Primary School. This is the third consecutive year McIntyre has qualified for the state championships.
It is Ella Thompson’s first time qualifying. She only recently took up golf after her school offered a program to teach students how to play.
Ella’s mother, Maree Thompson, was overjoyed by the result.
“Apart from mini-golf on holidays, she’s hardly played, so it was a bit surprising,” Thompson said.
“She’s very pleased and we’re all very proud of her.”
The state finals will be held on December 5 at Kooringal Golf Club in Melbourne.
