The project is a part of the school’s final stage of a ten-year expansion plan that offers prep to year 12. The school received $1,670,000 through a capital grants program last year, which gave the project the go ahead.
Principal Daniel Weller said the build was on track and will be completed by April for students to move in by the first day of term two. He said the two-storey building will cater for pre-tertiary learning, but can be used in multiple ways.
There will be six learning spaces, a makers space, a science area and a resource centre in the new building.
“It will be used in different ways and times depending on the learning of the students using the space and the subjects,” Mr Weller said.
The college will offer a year 12 cohort next year. He said students are eager to see the new space completed.
“We have shown students the plans and they have seen when the framework, the second level and now the roof has been put on. So, now they have a conceptional idea of what the space will look like,” he said.
Once completed the school’s attention will be move back to the junior site where a new block of classrooms will be built to replace a current portable building. This project will commence at the start of 2019.
“We originally were a single-stream primary school that moved double stream and we need to be able to continue in our junior school because we simply don’t have enough space now that we are triple-streaming,” Mr Weller said. “We will refurbish the current prep and year one classrooms and bring them into line with how we support learning with extra break out space for smaller enhance and support groups.”
Mr Weller said the school will approach the end of its final stage by 2020 with an additional gymnasium and sport science areas to be built at the senior school site.
Beyond 2020, Mr Weller said the school will assess the project and see if more upgrades are required.
