Creek put in an incredible performance in his second NBA match for the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday morning Australian time.
After playing just two seconds in his first match on Saturday, Creek was given more opportunity in his second match against the Boston Celtics.
Creek played 19 minutes in Brooklyn’s 112-104 loss and finished with six points, five rebounds and one assist.
He scored his first basket in regular play late in the first quarter with a smooth floater near the hoop. The play delighted Creek’s mother Bev and sister Shannon who had flown to America and were celebrating in the crowd.
Brooklyn Nets commentator Sarah Kustok said Creek had looked impressive during her commentary of the game.
“Mitch Creek has looked comfortable out there tonight,” Kustok said. “It’s not just on (offense) either – he has shown tremendous poise on both ends.”
Creek will be hoping to keep impressing with the Nets as he tries to get an extension beyond his current 10-day contract.
Horsham Basketball Association’s Nicole Lakin said she was overjoyed for Creek, and what his performances meant for the Horsham basketball community.
“We just could not be prouder of Mitch and what he has achieved,” Lakin said.
“It’s just surreal – you talk about our town and we have pride in basketball but you don’t realise how big it is that someone from our little country town has reached the pinnacle of basketball.
“We’re so lucky to have him – and he’s put Horsham on the map at the moment. Everyone is talking about it.”
Horsham basketball legend and Creek’s long time coach throughout his junior years Owen Hughan said it was a remarkable effort.
“It is every basketballer’s dream to play in the NBA and to actually see it happen... it’s given everyone a great lift,” Hughan said.
“It shows that it can be done. Mitch never went down to play only in the city or anything, he did it all from Horsham.
”It was very exciting and everyone has certainly joined in the enthusiasm and enjoyment.”
Creek has opted to not speak to media until he has completed his 10-day contract.
