Russell Lamattina, president of the party's Mildura branch, said the administrative committee would meet in Melbourne on Thursday night.
"We're hoping for some dates and how we need to go through it all," Mr Lamattina said.
"Once we are given the information we need we are ready to choose the best candidate we can.
"Those who have nominated are free to publicly reveal that they have but can only do it themselves."
Though part of a coalition with the National Party, the Liberals have run candidates in Mallee when the sitting Nationals member retires. That is the case for the 2019 federal election, with sitting MP Andrew Broad announcing he will not recontest the seat in the wake of December's 'sugar baby' scandal.
Mr Lamattina said this particular election presented unique challenges for the Liberals.

"Normally the decision to run candidates revolves around knowing well in advance what the situation is with the other parties contesting," he said.
"For example, we've got four years to find a candidate and drum up support for (the state seat of) Mildura which is now held by an independent. This time we only have a few weeks."
Six people have already announced their candidacy for Mallee at this year's election, the most recent being Horsham resident Cecilia Moar on Monday.
In January, the Nationals chose Mildura's Dr Anne Webster as their candidate to succeed Mr Broad.
