Changes to the Haven Market after a bustling re-opening

Coinciding with easing regional Victorian restrictions, the October market had 60 stores and attracted hundreds at its normal location at the Haven Primary School

The result was cars lining the Henty Highway and crowds sometimes bunching too close together, rather than ensuring the recommended 1.5 metres of distance.

It has prompted organisers to significantly change next month's event, with the processions moved to the primary school oval, allowing more room for stores and patrons.

"It was so big, which was fantastic and exciting, but it was also a bit daunting, because we had to make sure we were abiding by COVID rules," market co-ordinator Sue Exell said.

"So we've moved the site down the back of the school onto a lovely big soccer field. We've also got some ideas with increasing our parking.

"People will also have to sign in on attendance sheets, or scan QR codes if they have smartphones.

"It's going to be a pretty major change for us we think."

At the October market, Mrs Exell and fellow volunteers were encouraging people over loudspeakers to continue moving through the market and to not stop in large groups.

"It was just a bit congested," she said.

"It was the biggest we've ever had. We went from having 27 stalls in July to having 60 in October, and we've already got a waiting list of people wanting to add to that number, which is great.

"This will allow us to keep the same amount and to keep growing."

Mrs Exell said the move was also something organisers had been considering for quite a while.

"It is a bit exciting really to try something new," she said.

"We'll have more food and more drinks as well.

"It's going to look completely different so we're looking forward to it."
