The Wimmera town was hit more than 31mm of rain on Thursday night and Friday morning, flooding low-lying shops and businesses.
The heavy rain was so devastating, the parts of the Creekside Hotel's ceiling caved in and Ritchies IGA was flooded for much of the weekend.
Despite the roof collapsing, Creekside Hotel owner Sally Gebert said she just had to laugh.
"It was a freak accident. Of course it had to happen at 5pm on a Friday night and not 3pm on a Tuesday," she said.
Ms Gebert said they had a massive downpour all at once which swelled the box gutters which collapsed the roof right at the front door.
"Our team were great. We shifted electrical and kept going and re-directed customers through another door," she said.
"The plumber had finished for the day but he was there in 10 minutes.
"It's the beauty of living in a small community. Local people are so helpful."
She said though the roof it patched, there will be a lot of work in repairing the damage.
"It tested our metal," she said.
"We just kept going and pretended there wasn't water blowing in from the roof."
Farmer Mick Morcom who lives just south of Warracknabeal got 40mm of rain on his property.

"We missed out on the really heavy rain," Mr Morcom said.
"Just southeast of me, a farm got 100mm of rain."
Mr Marcom said they got 20mm pretty quickly.
"You never knock back rain, you never know when the next one is coming," he said.
David Drage from Brim said they just got the edge of the storm.
"We only got 13mm of rain but we received 30mm in total. We had 17mm on the previous Monday evening," Mr Drage said.
Sarah Ellis from Robertson Smith and Co captured a picture of the rumbling thunderstorm as it headed in.
"It was very heavy rain. I measured the rain at 5.30pm on Friday, we have 27mm in about 20 minutes," Ms Ellis said.
She said that morning they had gotten 21mm of rain.
"By 5.30 it wasn't raining," Ms Ellis said.
"The rainfall was very varied. To the south in Dumbuoy they received no rain.
At Wilken Grain staff member Gary said they saw 25mm a "downpour" of rain in the late afternoon. Staff captured video of the rain outside flooding the roads.
The news comes as several businesses in Rupanyup were forced to close due to the storm.
