Mr Lakin's father has worked at Powercor for over 35 years, starting his career as a lineworker like his son.
"It is certainly going to make it a bit easier to transition, I suppose, having a few connections around here already. Dad showed me around which is good," Mr Lakin said.
Lineworkers construct and maintain both the overhead and underground electricity networks.
The apprenticeships will run for four years with both TAFE study and on-the-job training. Apprentice lineworkers will receive a Certificate III in ESI Distribution (Powerline) upon completion.
Powercor's head of field services, Ross Young, said the number of applications for the positions had increased by 56 per cent from last year.
"Apprenticeships are an important way we invest in our people, providing opportunities to learn the skills needed to create a career in an exciting industry," Mr Young said.
"As Victoria adopts more clean energy resources, and households are installing solar, batteries and investing in electric vehicles, our new apprentices will play an important role in supporting our customers make these changes."
