Lister House chief executive Amanda Wilson said the clinic had seen increased demand since the 2a vaccine had become available to people aged over 50.

The clinic has been running morning and evening vaccine sessions and was looking to expand booking slots to meet demand.

"It has been a good week, steady. Increasing every single day with uptake - lots of enquiries and lots of questions," she said.

"We are fully booked out with evening sessions. There has been a big uptake of people coming in after work."

Lister House has vaccinated more than 2500 people since the clinic started 1b vaccinations at Up Tempo cafe and function centre four weeks ago.

The clinic had three people admitted to the hospital after receiving the vaccine, with no serious issues.

Mrs Wilson said she had seen an increased interest in how the vaccine worked and hoped to dispel any doubts in people's minds about its safety.

"There were interestingly a lot more questions, but not vaccine hesitancy. People are more educated in their questioning and need a bit of reassurance in getting their vaccines," she said.

"I am trying to encourage people to be prepared - get vaccinated now. If COVID had broken out again, everybody would be lining up around the corner.

"Be ahead of the rush, ahead of the curve, and keep the vaccinations coming to keep everyone in the community safe."

The phase 2a rollout started on May 3, with the jab available at Commonwealth vaccination clinics such as Lister House.

On May 17, the phase 2a vaccine rollout will expand, with people over the age of 50 can receive the AstraZeneca vaccine at participating general practices.
