COLOURED ribbons, a tree of life and dozens of other creative ideas helped promote a message of hope for those with cancer this week.
Wimmera businesses rallied to support Paint the Town Purple, which marks the official launch of the 2016 Horsham and Districts Relay for Life.
The relay is in March next year.
Paint the Town Purple encourages business owners and staff to decorate their shop windows in purple for the week.
Event organiser Tami Lane said the business with the best dressed window would receive a Queensland holiday donated by The Wimmera Mail-Times.
“Businesses were told the judges would be looking for creativity and unique ways to bring awareness to the cause,” she said.
“The personal touches and stories of not only hope but determination to help find a cure to beat cancer have been overwhelming.
“There is a real fighting spirit out there that together, we can make a difference."
Relay For Life community engagement co-ordinator Tara Everist said she was amazed at the response to the initiative in the Wimmera this year.
“It's uplifting to see a community get behind this cause and show their purple colours in the fight against cancer,” she said.
“It's not an easy task rallying everyone together, but the Horsham and Districts Relay For Life committee has done an outstanding job and really given the relay community something to be proud of.”
The Wimmera Mail-Times will announce the best dressed window winner on its website and Facebook page on Friday.
Mrs Lane said businesses could also upload photos of their displays to the Relay for Life Facebook page for people to vote on.
People who ‘like’ the page go into the draw to win one of 2 $50 Caltex Star Cash cards.
People can also change their Facebook profile photo to the Mail-Times’ Paint the Town Purple picture for a chance to win an Oven Door Bakery voucher.
