With the seniors not scheduled to start until next week, it was down to the juniors to open the summer of cricket.
At Dudley Cornell Park, Colts and Horsham Saints Red showed little signs of first-game rust and played out a competitive match. It was Horsham Saints Red, however, that walked away with an opening round win.
In the round's other games, Homers Blue beat Dunmunkle Renegades Red, Homers White defeated West Wimmera Warriors, Dunmunkle Renegades Black topped Horsham Saints Black, and Blackheath-Dimboola was too good for Bullants.
The under-12 and under-16.5 seasons start on Saturday.
Cricket has a distinctly 2020 look this summer, with umpires wearing masks, players social distancing whenever possible, and equipment being sanitised regularly.
